Concept
Today, the Bad Marienberg campus symbolizes the shift toward sustainable architecture. Targeted measures transformed an old building in need of renovation into a modern, energy-efficient showcase project. At the heart of the concept is an innovative green façade that combines ecology, design, and technology. It makes sustainability visible and lends the building a new, vibrant identity. The implementation demonstrates how thoughtful planning and environmentally conscious construction can go hand in hand.
Innovation meets craftsmanship
Mainz-based startup Green Mama , we developed a system that enables self-sufficient, self-watering greenery. The foundation is aluminum frames that are individually bent and powder-coated in our workshop. Each frame is prepared by hand and precisely optimized for installation. This eliminates any subsequent adjustments on site.
Layer by layer to the green surface
The prepared facade elements are given a highly functional interior: a multi-layered vegetation support made of technical textile creates the foundation for permanent plant growth. This system stores water, regulates humidity, and requires no additional building services. The pre-cut tabs are filled with a special substrate – ideal for seedling growth. The selected plants are particularly robust and suited to the harsh climate of the Westerwald region.
Digital control for living architecture
Thanks to Green Mama’s modern sensor technology, the plants’ vitality is continuously monitored. Temperature, humidity, and growth behavior can be analyzed remotely. This enables targeted maintenance and long-term efficiency. Sustainability doesn’t end with installation for us; it continues throughout operation. The final installation takes place on a 3D-adjustable substructure, which allows for the highest precision even in older buildings. This creates a durable, low-maintenance facade with real added value.
A statement for the future
With each plant segment, a piece of the future grows on the campus wall. What begins as a delicate plant today will soon become a dense, vibrant green space. The combination of aluminum and vegetation combines longevity with ecological responsibility. The green façade symbolizes modern construction in harmony with nature. It demonstrates that sustainability is not only possible—it is designable, visible, and inspiring.
